The Authority of Persons with Disabilities (APD) has announced the launch of the fifth edition of the Purple Saturday initiative, which is held annually on the last Saturday of July and will take place this year on Saturday, 26 July 2025, in cooperation with a number of government, private, and non-profit entities.
Purple Saturday is one of APD’s key initiatives to engage the private sector in empowering persons with disabilities by providing tangible incentives and encouraging companies to launch impactful programs that enhance social inclusion and participation. The initiative enables retailers to offer exclusive promotions for persons with disabilities without counting Purple Saturday participation against their seasonal discount days, giving businesses flexibility to support the initiative without affecting their allocated discount quota.
In previous years, the initiative has seen participation from more than 3,500 points of sale across the Kingdom, alongside GCC engagement that reflects its expanding reach and growing year-on-year momentum. APD also announced the launch of the Purple Saturday Award for 2025, which recognizes outstanding offers, leading companies advancing the empowerment of persons with disabilities, and enabling initiatives—aimed at incentivizing excellence, boosting engagement with the initiative, and catalyzing supportive programs.
Enterprises and retailers wishing to participate can register via APD’s official website and record their initiatives on the National Corporate Social Responsibility Platform to document their contributions under community enablement programs. APD continues to work collaboratively with stakeholders across sectors to enhance the quality of services provided to persons with disabilities and to raise community awareness—advancing toward an inclusive, enabling society with equal opportunities for all.
