The Purple Saturday initiative is one of the programs led by the Authority of Persons with Disabilities (APD) to foster social engagement and drive impactful momentum that supports the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society. It aims to advance inclusivity, raise awareness of their rights, and identify their needs and requirements within the economic environment, while enhancing physical and digital accessibility. This is achieved through offers, discounts, and commercial benefits provided by participating entities. The initiative has expanded year after year, achieving significant success locally, alongside notable participation from GCC partners this year—reflecting its growing reach and societal impact. APD Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hisham bin Mohammed Al-Heidari launched Purple Saturday 2025 by unveiling the initiative’s website, which enables persons with disabilities to view offers and benefits provided by Purple Saturday partners. The page can be accessed at: https://apd.gov.sa/purple-saturday https://apd.gov.sa/purple-saturdayThe fifth edition also introduces the Purple Saturday Award 2025, featuring several tracks such as Best Initiative to Promote Inclusivity and Best Customer Experience by a Person with a Disability, among other categories granted to entities and individuals contributing to the empowerment of persons with disabilities and delivering social impact that strengthens inclusion under the Purple Saturday initiative. New for this year, the Purple Saturday Card is being launched and made available via the Tawakkalna application as one of the approved verification methods for entities providing commercial offers and discounts, in addition to other forms of verification such as the parking facilitation card and the Erkab card. APD continues to work in an integrated and collaborative manner with stakeholders across sectors to enhance services, align roles, and contribute to the development of legislation and policies that improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities. These efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030 targets to build an inclusive, enabling society with equal opportunities for all.
